OnApp unveils new cloud management apps for iPhone, iPad and Android

Brings comprehensive control of cloud services to hosting providers and users, and enables cloud hosts to offer their own branded app to customers.

Date: 23 Sep 2011

OnApp has launched new cloud management apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. The new apps provide a wide range of cloud management capabilities for cloud hosts powered by OnApp, and for their customers. iPad and Android are supported for the first time, as well as the ability for cloud providers to rebrand the app on iPhone/iPad. This enables hosts to give their customers a bespoke cloud management app without the time and expense of developing their own.

The apps are free to download. They enable anyone using clouds built with OnApp Cloud software to manage and monitor cloud services on the move. The new app for iPhone/iPad includes the ability to create virtual machines; track disk, RAM, CPU and bandwidth usage; change virtual machine RAM and CPU resources; and view logs and other details. Hosts can also customize the app with their own logo, look and feel and language. The version for Android is the first release for the platform, and provides a range of cloud monitoring capabilities.

“A smartphone app is an important differentiator for cloud providers,” said Roger Nolan, CTO of OnApp. “It’s a way for a cloud host to add value to its service, and of course it means end users and system administrators have instant access to their cloud, wherever they are. Fixing a problem, adding more CPU and RAM to cope with a spike in traffic, or spinning up a new VM can be done anywhere.”

“We have added a lot of great new functionality for iPad and iPhone users, but it’s the ability to rebrand the app that is most important for cloud providers,” he continued. “If you build your cloud hosting service with OnApp, you get instant access to a fully-featured smartphone app, free of charge, and with minimal effort you can create a version with your own branding, ready to submit to the App Store.”

Dediserve is an incredibly successful cloud hosting provider based in Ireland. The company is a long-standing user of OnApp Cloud software, offering Virtual Datacentre (private cloud) and flexible Cloud Machine services powered by OnApp. Dediserve has just released its own branded version of the app for iPhone/iPad.

Dediserve’s Managing Director, Aidan McCarron, said: “Using OnApp Cloud software we grew our cloud business from scratch to €1 million+ revenue in the first year. The OnApp cloud app is another great way for us to continue that growth. We could create a unique branded app specifically for Dediserve customers, free of charge and without having to develop our own. That’s an incredible value-add for us, and really attractive to our customers. It’s another reason why OnApp is the best bet for any host that’s serious about the cloud.”
