Rising energy costs are forcing many UK companies to re-evaluate how and where they store their business data. A growing number of organisations are turning to Cloud computing for a solution, and outsourcing their IT and Communications needs to an expert. In response to this demand for energy efficient data-hosting and Cloud computing, Cloud services provider InTechnology is inviting local businesses to visit its new data centre in Reading to see for themselves how they can benefit from Cloud technology and an energy efficient next-generation data centre facility. InTechnology opened its new data centre in Reading earlier this year. The facility has been designed with energy-efficiency at its core. One of the key efficiency drivers is free (or fresh) air cooling. In colder months, ambient air is drawn in from outside the data centre via window louvres, rather than being cooled with energy-hungry chiller units all year round. Built to Tier 3 standards, InTechnology examined every possible aspect of power, security, cooling and protection before choosing the best available technologies. The result is truly a next-generation UK data centre aiming at a Power Unit Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.25 or better. Most UK data centres currently achieve only 2+. The facility provides customers with a reliable, secure and affordable hosting alternative to those usually found in London. Stefan Haase, divisional product director, data Cloud services, InTechnology said: “When designing our Reading facility, our main aim was to create a facility outside London which offered efficient use of power, cooling and space, and which could be economically maintained.” Following the success of two previous events, InTechnology will be hosting its third open day on 19th July. The half-day event will look at the challenge and opportunities presented by Cloud computing and next-generation data centres. In addition to a tour of the data centre, industry experts will share their experiences and expertise and discuss the key issues. Delegates will learn about other business-critical issues around Cloud, including security, performance, reliability and scalability. Haase continued: “We are delighted to be able showcase our facility and demonstrate first-hand the benefits of an energy-efficient data centre. It is also an opportunity for us to share our expertise with organisations considering making the move to Cloud computing and a next-generation data centre.”
The Reading data centre is the latest addition to InTechnology’s growing Cloud infrastructure. The highly secure facility features sophisticated monitoring and recording equipment and it is manned 24/7/365.
